DEFINING FASHION: Prêt à Porter

Today’s fashion definition: the French for ‘ready to wear’.

Fashion seasons are split into SS (Spring/Summer) FW (Fall/Winter) and these are both Prêt à Porter (Ready to wear).

Its meaning is pretty literal - the clothing we can buy & wear immediately, as opposed to the couture collections that are crafted on order.

These ready to wear collections are mass-produced in standardised sizing, and sold in their fully finished state. That’s basically everything on the high street and everything online - everything you’re wearing is prêt à porter!
