The Zebra Pyjamas

It was the late 70s and I was in my punk era. My most brilliant charity shop find was a pair of zebra print pyjamas.  They were really unusual, thick cotton, with a boxy little jacket with pockets. The bottoms were big and baggy but I took the legs in on a sewing machine to make them pedal pushers.  I wore them with really pointy low heel stilettos or boots. I felt great in that outfit and I knew that they drew attention.

Everyone commented on them and wanted to know where I got them. The fact that they were a total one off felt good. Partly because they were unique, but also some pride that I had seen the potential in a pair of pyjamas in a dump bin in a charity shop.

I wore them so much they started splitting at the seams and were beyond repair. It was a very sad day when I couldn’t wear them anymore.
